Unitarian Universalism

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion with its historical roots in the Jewish and Christian traditions. It does not require that its adherents adhere to any specific beliefs. It is a multi-faith religious group. Unitarian Universalists believe that religious authority lies in ourselves and not in a book, person or institution. Unitarian Universalists believe that each person has dignity and worth and should find his or her unique spiritual path.

Unitarian Universalism is affectionately referred to as "UU". Unitarian Universalists are known amongst each other as "UUs" or "UUers".

Although Unitarian Universalists have a great freedom of religious beliefs and expression, they nevertheless agree to the following seven principles as their covenant:

1. Each person has inherent worth and should be treated in a dignified way.
2. Human relations should be governed by justice, fairness and compassion.
3. We should be accepting of each other and should strive towards spiritual growth.
4. All people should be allowed to freely and responsibly search for truth and meaning.
5. Conscience and the democratic process should govern both our congregation as well as all of society.
6. We should strive towards a global community with peace, liberty and justice for everyone.
7. We should respect the interdependent web of all existence that we are a part of.

The seventh principle is the most important link between Unitarian Universalism and veganism.
